The Golden Ring of Cyprus

The trip begins with a visit to a small yet so charming place, well known far beyond Cyprus, the pride of Cyprus and its treasure – the craftsmen’s village of Lefkara, also known as the Silver Village.

After that you will head straight to Larnaca, where you will stroll along the city’s most beautiful promenade – Finikoudes – and see one of the holy sites of Cyprus, the Church of St Lazarus, known as the Christian pearl of Cyprus, as well as another sacred site – the Muslim Hala Sultan Tekke mosque, built right on the shore of the salt lake where pink flamingos winter…

Our route then leads on to the liveliest place on the island – Ayia Napa. In the centre of town stands the old Monastery of Ayia Napa, patroness of the forests, after which we head to the furthest point of the Greek part of Cyprus – Cape Greco. Throw away every sea-view photo you’ve ever taken – they are nothing compared with this breathtaking beauty. But another surprise awaits you: you will see a genuine “Ghost Town” – Famagusta.

The finishing touch will be a visit to Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, where you will see the old Venetian walls, the Archbishop’s Palace and the Cathedral of St John the Theologian. To finish, the bright and welcoming Laiki Geitonia quarter awaits – the most enchanting part of the city, with narrow cobbled streets, cafés, little restaurants and cheerful, colourful souvenir shops that will sweep you up in a festive whirl – leaving you forever with a spark of happiness called Cyprus…

USEFUL TIP: wear comfortable shoes, and remember that modest clothing is required when visiting Christian churches. Don’t forget your camera and swimwear.

INTERESTING FACT: For diving enthusiasts – trade routes once passed by the cape. In 306 BC a naval battle between the Macedonians and the Egyptians took place off Cape Greco. The sunken warships and merchant vessels still hold great interest for treasure and antiquities enthusiasts.
