Grand Tour — Kykkos

We begin with a visit to the mountain village of Lefkara, which has preserved its narrow streets, traditional stone architecture, cosy coffee shops and numerous little shops selling traditional silverware and the famous lefkaritika lace.

Then, passing through many small villages and the outskirts of the island's capital, Lefkosia (the only city in the world divided into two parts), we continue our journey into the Troodos mountains. We will climb to the highest point, Mount Olympus, from where a view opens up over Morphou Bay and the Mesaoria plain.

Our next stop will be the world-famous Kykkos Monastery, not only the wealthiest but also one of the largest and most popular monasteries in Cyprus. For many centuries it has held the miracle-working icon of the Virgin Mary, painted by St Luke.

At the end of the excursion we will stop at a village winery, where you can watch the winemaking process and taste the produce of this small mountain winery.

During the journey you will gain a wealth of information about the history, culture and traditions of Cyprus.

DAYS OF OPERATION: Wednesday

EXCURSION DURATION: 9am to 5pm.

MEALS: lunch at a mountain tavern.

USEFUL TIP: We recommend wearing comfortable shoes. Knees and shoulders must be covered to enter the monastery, so please plan your outfit accordingly. Don't forget your camera

INTERESTING FACT: Over the many centuries of Kykkos Monastery's existence, the island has suffered many misfortunes, and the monastery has burned to the ground four times; each time, the icon of the Virgin Mary was miraculously saved.
