Paphos — Kourion

On this excursion we will learn about the history and legends of one of the most beautiful cities in Cyprus.

On the way to Paphos, we will make our first stop at the ancient hilltop city-state of Kourion and its world-famous Greco-Roman amphitheatre.

Having admired the breathtaking view, we will head to the birthplace of Aphrodite. You will have the chance to walk, take photographs and swim in waters said to bring youth and beauty (30-minute stop). According to legend, it was here that the Goddess of Love and Beauty rose from the sea foam.

The remarkable history of the ancient capital of Cyprus will amaze you. The city has rightly been included on the World UNESCO Heritage list. In "Kato Paphos" we will visit the Catacombs of St Solomoni and pass by St Paul's Pillar. We will then view the House of Dionysus, a Roman villa with beautifully preserved floor mosaics depicting scenes from ancient Greek myths.

After lunch you will have the opportunity to wander along Paphos seafront. On the way back, after passing the Basilica of St Paraskevi (9th century), we will stop in the village of Geroskipou, where you can try and buy Cypriot "loukoumia" sweets. For guests from Paphos, the excursion ends at Paphos harbour.

DAYS OF OPERATION: Tuesday

EXCURSION DURATION: 9am to 4pm.

MEALS: Meals are not included in the price; in the old town of Paphos there will be time and opportunity to enjoy a cup of local coffee and a snack.

USEFUL TIP: We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing swimwear and towels. Don't forget your camera.

INTERESTING FACT: The stone square of Paphos Castle rises at the end of the seafront, by the town harbour. This unassuming-looking structure once struck fear into the many conquerors of the city 500 years ago. The fort repeatedly changed hands: the Ottomans used it as a prison and observation post, while the British stored salt there.
